Hey Ladies…and any gents who have found your way to my page,
We have a really big weekend in sports coming up so ladies you can choose to just make lots of mani -pedi appointments or you can try to have fun watching games! Here’s what to watch for over this holiday weekend:
- NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE (NHL) CHAMPIONSHIP (AKA “The Stanley Cup Finals”). The Chicago Blackhawks and the Philadelphia Flyers face-off on Saturday at 8pm ET in Chicago in Game One of the Stanley Cup Finals. Game 2 will be in Chicago on Monday night. Is Philadelphia goalie Michael Leighton up to the challenge of Chicago’s powerful goal-scoring trio of Jonathan Toews (pronouned like “tase” as in taser gun!), Dustin Byfuglien “Big Buff”, and Patrick Kane. The first one of these teams to win 4 games, will go home for the summer with all the glory…at least for the next few months until the next season starts :-).
For those of you who have never seen the “Stanley Cup”…it’s pretty impressive!

- NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION (NBA) PLAYOFFS: With the Los Angeles Lakers victory at home last night over the Phoenix Suns, the Lakers will have a chance to advance to the NBA Championship on Saturday night at 8:30 ET when they return to play in Phoenix (the Lakers hold a 3-2 lead in the series, so one more win and they are in). The Suns, however, are not likely to go down easily and they have been “hot” at home…hahaha. In the Eastern Conference the Boston Celtics look to reclaim some of their early fire tonight and send the visiting Orlando Magic home for the summer. The Celtics once had a 3-0 series lead but have since lost two games. The Magic will be fighting for survival and to force a decisive game seven back in Florida.
- TENNIS: All the top 5-seeded mens players are still in the tournament and the women will undoubtedly make headlines between Justine Henin’s return to the French Open and Venus William’s fashion choices. There will be plenty of action from Roland Garros all weekend.
- NCAA Men’s and Women’s LACROSSE Final Four Weekend: On the men’s side there will be plenty of action on Saturday afternoon and evening during the semifinals. The final will be played on Monday. On the women’s side the Northwestern Wildcats will try for their 6th straight title. GO CATS!!
- BASEBALL: yep…it’s still only May. I promise I’ll be reporting more on baseball once the games start to “matter” a little more…sorry die hard baseball fans. At this point in the season, I like to watch with a beer, but I’m not getting upset over every game. Come August, we might have a different story.
Whew! I am moving this weekend…ahhhh, the sadness of leaving my awesome apartment!! So wish me luck and if you don’t hear from me, it’s because my boyfriend’ shotty internet is not cooperating or because I’m at the beach. Let’s hope for the latter!
HAPPY HOLIDAY WEEKEND EVERYONE!
Love, The Sports Chick
